Week 1: Hope
November 30 – December 6
The Prophecy Candle
Hope is the confident expectation of what God has promised. This week we light the Prophet’s Candle, remembering those who pointed toward the coming Messiah.
Morning Reflection
Begin your day in stillness. What are you truly hoping for this season?
“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.” – Isaiah 40:31
Scripture Reading
Read Isaiah 9:2-7. Notice the tension between present darkness and promised light.
Prayer Focus
“God of promise, in the waiting, teach me to hope not in circumstances, but in Your faithful character…”
Journal Prompt
Where in your life feels dark right now? Write one sentence of hope about that area.
Song of Hope
Listen to “O Come, O Come Emmanuel.” Pay attention to the longing in the lyrics.
Candle Lighting
Light your first purple candle. Pray for someone who needs hope this season.
Act of Hope
Send an encouraging note to someone who’s waiting for something.
Week 2: Peace
December 7 – 13
The Bethlehem Candle
Peace is not the absence of trouble, but the presence of Christ. This week we light the Bethlehem Candle, remembering the Prince of Peace born in humble surroundings.
Morning Reflection
Where is there chaos or anxiety in your life? Offer it in silence to God.
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you.” – John 14:27
Scripture Reading
Read Luke 2:8-14. Imagine being a shepherd hearing this announcement.
Prayer Focus
“Prince of Peace, calm the storms within me. Teach me that true peace begins with surrender…”
Journal Prompt
What relationships need reconciliation or peace? Write a prayer about one.
Song of Peace
Listen to “Silent Night.” Focus on the line “heavenly peace.”
Candle Lighting
Light two purple candles. Sit in silence for 5 minutes, breathing in peace.
Act of Peace
Initiate reconciliation or extend forgiveness in one relationship.
Week 3: Joy
December 14 – 20
The Shepherd’s Candle (Rose)
Joy is the deep, unshakable gladness that comes from God’s presence. This week we light the pink Shepherd’s Candle, remembering their exuberant response to the Good News.
Morning Reflection
Recall one moment of pure joy from your past. Thank God for it.
“The joy of the Lord is your strength.” – Nehemiah 8:10
Scripture Reading
Read Luke 1:39-45. Feel Mary’s joy and Elizabeth’s recognition.
Prayer Focus
“God of joy, help me find delight not in perfect circumstances, but in Your constant presence with me…”
Journal Prompt
List 5 simple joys you can notice today (warm drink, laughter, etc.).
Song of Joy
Listen to “Joy to the World.” Sing along loudly!
Candle Lighting
Light two purple and the pink candle. Share a joyful memory with someone.
Act of Joy
Do something purely fun and unnecessary. Let yourself laugh fully.
Week 4: Love
December 21 – 24
The Angel’s Candle
Love is God’s ultimate gift—the why behind the incarnation. This week we light the Angel’s Candle, remembering the heavenly announcement of Love come down.
Morning Reflection
How have you experienced God’s love recently? Sit with that memory.
“God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son.” – John 3:16
Scripture Reading
Read 1 John 4:7-12. Notice that love originates from God.
Prayer Focus
“God who is Love, help me receive Your love fully, then overflow it to others, especially the hard-to-love…”
Journal Prompt
Who needs to feel loved by you this week? Write a specific action plan.
Song of Love
Listen to “What Child is This?” Ponder the mystery of divine love in a manger.
Candle Lighting
Light all four candles. Pray for your “enemies” or those you struggle with.
Act of Love
Perform one anonymous act of kindness for a stranger.
