Personal Reflections from Ministry

Miracle Ojo | Benin City, Nigeria to Cuneo, Italy

Growing up in Benin City, Nigeria, in 1984, my childhood was defined by strong family devotions and early lessons in Scripture. Yet, walking with God is not a legacy you simply inherit on paper; it must become a living reality forged through your own trials. Years later, living in Italy and serving through my ordination in the Aaronic Priesthood within the Cuneo Branch, I encountered seasons where my own human strength reached its absolute limit. Transitioning across continents, managing cross-cultural ministry, and standing alongside families facing devastating health or financial collapse taught me a vital lesson: passive religion fails under pressure.

We all encounter seasons where life feels as if it is unraveling entirely. The medical report brings terrifying news, bank balances drop to single digits, or long-held promises seem completely dead. In those moments of isolation, the human mind instinctively asks if God has withdrawn His mercy. But Scripture presents an entirely different reality—one that does not depend on emotional tides or environmental stability, but on the immutable character of Almighty God.

To experience a life where every dimension operates under divine order, we must return to God’s original plan for mankind. Humanity was never designed to exist in continuous defeat or spiritual panic. We were created to walk in unbroken communion, spiritual authority, and continuous alignment with heaven.

When life breaks down, it is rarely because God has revoked His power. Rather, it occurs because we have severed hope from its operational engine: present-tense, active faith expressed through concrete works. In this exhaustive study, we will dissect the spiritual laws that govern hope, faith, and practical labor so you can build an unshakeable foundation.

The Structural Mechanics of Spiritual Realization

How divine promises transition from heavenly reality into tangible physical execution.

Phase 1
Hebrews 10:23
The Anchor: Confident expectation in God’s immutable character (Elpis).
Phase 2
Job 32:8
The Spirit Within: Divine inspiration quickening human understanding.
Phase 3
Mark 11:24
The Engine: Present-tense faith (Pistis) taking legal ownership (Hypostasis).
Phase 4
James 2:26
The Proof: Corresponding physical labor (Ergon) completing the work.

1. The Anchor: Hebrews 10:23 and the Greek Concept of Elpis

Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.

— Hebrews 10:23

In pastoral counseling, I often hear believers express hope in terms of uncertainty. They say they hope the sickness will leave, or they hope financial relief will come tomorrow. However, in modern vernacular, hope has been degraded to mean optimism mixed with doubt.

When the writer of Hebrews recorded this exhortation under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, he utilized the Greek word Elpis. In ancient literature and Biblical usage, Elpis does not represent wishful thinking. It denotes a joyful, unwavering, and absolute expectation of good based upon solid proof. It functions as an invisible anchor dropping straight from the soul into the eternal throne room of God.

Notice the precision of this directive: Scripture does not instruct us to hold fast to our emotional states, nor to our fluctuating physical evidence. It commands us to hold fast to our confession—the vocalized, lived alignment with what God has spoken. Why? Because the validity of any legal covenant rests entirely on the authority of the covenant maker.

God is not a man that He should lie, nor the son of man that He should repent. According to scholarly resources such as Baker’s Evangelical Dictionary of Biblical Theology, God’s faithfulness is an absolute attribute of His immutable nature. This means His adherence to His promises is independent of human frailty. Your anchor cannot slip because the bedrock beneath it is the eternal character of Yahweh.

2. The Promises: What Has God Actually Promised His Children?

To stand firm in hope, you must know the exact contents of your spiritual inheritance. You cannot claim what you have not identified. Vague understanding leads to weak prayers. The Bible outlines explicit covenant guarantees purchased through the blood of Jesus Christ:

Salvation & Eternal Inheritance

John 3:16, 1 John 5:11-12, Ephesians 1:13-14

Legal acquittal from sin, adoption into God’s family, and guaranteed eternal fellowship with the Father.

The Holy Spirit’s Indwelling

Acts 2:38-39, John 14:16-17, Ezekiel 36:27

Direct, personal access to the Comforter who provides supernatural guidance, conviction, and power.

Covenantal Provision & Stewardship

Philippians 4:19, Psalm 34:10, 2 Corinthians 9:8

Comprehensive supply for every legitimate physical, ministerial, and earthly requirement.

Supernatural Peace (Shalom)

Isaiah 26:3, Philippians 4:7, John 14:27

An unshakeable, guarded state of mental and emotional wholeness that defies external crisis.

Protection & Spiritual Shielding

Psalm 91:1-16, 2 Thessalonians 3:3, Isaiah 54:17

Angelic guardianship and legal immunity from demonic traps and targeted destruction.

Generous Wisdom & Insight

James 1:5, Proverbs 3:5-6, 1 Corinthians 2:10

Unrestricted access to heavenly wisdom when navigating complex decisions or trials.

These promises are not rhetorical embellishments; they are legal tenders issued by heaven. However, when chaos or spiritual stagnation enters your living space, practical steps must be taken to clear away spiritual clutter.

Learning practical routines for maintaining an environment dedicated to God’s presence—such as reviewing a biblical guide for home cleansing and peace—allows believers to systematically eliminate spiritual hindrances and enforce God’s peace within their domestic lives.

3. The Spirit Within: Divine Inspiration and Guidance

How does a believer bridge the gap between written scripture and personal application? The ancient patriarchs understood this secret well. In Job 32:8, Elihu declares:

But there is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding.

— Job 32:8

Human logic, while useful, is inherently constrained by sensory data and past observations. Yet, when the human spirit is quickened by the Holy Spirit (the *Neshamah* or divine breath of God), super-rational understanding is imparted. This divine illumination provides clarity that bypasses human limitation, allowing you to discern traps before they spring and see pathways where none exist naturally.

This internal illumination extends directly to physical health, cognitive clarity, and emotional resilience. Neural distress, trauma, and chronic anxiety frequently obscure spiritual hearing.

During seasons of heavy spiritual or mental exhaustion, engaging in targeted intercession like powerful prayers for brain healing and restoration serves as a key spiritual practice to realign cognitive functions with divine vitality.

4. The Engine: Faith That Moves Mountains

If hope provides the blueprint of what ought to be, faith is the actual muscle that brings it to pass. In Mark 11:24, Jesus presents the operational principle of real faith:

Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.

— Mark 11:24

Examining the original Greek construction reveals a profound temporal key. The phrase translated as “believe that you have received it” uses the Greek verb elambanete in the aorist tense. This signifies taking possession of the reality at the exact instant of prayer, long before physical verification arrives.

This aligns directly with Hebrews 11:1: Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. The word translated as “substance” is the Greek legal term Hypostasis. In ancient Greco-Roman commerce, a Hypostasis was a title deed—the legal document proving ownership of a property before stepping foot on the land. Faith is not trying to convince God to act; faith is presenting heaven’s legal title deed for what He has already provided.

Dimension Biblical Hope (Elpis) Biblical Faith (Pistis) Faith-Driven Action (Ergon)
Core Function Architectural Vision / Anchor Legal Title Deed (Hypostasis) Physical Execution / Reality
Temporal Focus Future Expectation Present Reality (Now) Continuous Daily Movement
Absence Leads To Despair and Bitterness Passive Daydreaming Dead Religion (James 2:26)
Primary Scriptures Hebrews 10:23, Psalm 42:11 Hebrews 11:1, Mark 11:24 James 2:17-26, Galatians 5:6

5. The Proof: Faith Without Works is Dead

This section addresses the primary point of failure for many sincere believers. People pray passionately, fast thoroughly, and then remain completely passive. However, James 2:26 provides an unequivocal standard: For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

The Greek word used for “works” here is Ergon, referring to practical, corresponding physical labor. A belief system that requires no behavioral changes, demands no risk, and produces no concrete obedience is a spiritual corpse. We do not work to earn God’s favor; we work because we know His promise is already secured.

  • Vocation & Finances: Believing God for provision requires actively preparing your resume, acquiring necessary skills, and applying for positions with diligence.
  • Relational Restoration: Praying for family reconciliation means taking practical steps toward forgiveness, controlling your tongue, and demonstrating Christlike love.
  • Spiritual Liberation: Claiming freedom from ancestral patterns or oppression requires standing on your legal rights in prayer while severing unhealthy habits. Utilizing a targeted liberty decree to reclaim your inheritance aligns your spoken authority with daily action.

6. Biblical Precedents of Faith in Action

To truly understand how active faith operates under extreme pressure, we examine three major Biblical precedents:

Abraham: Absolute Obedience

When instructed to offer Isaac on Mount Moriah, Abraham did not waver in unbelief. Hebrews 11:17-19 explains that Abraham reasoned God was able to raise Isaac even from the dead. His faith was not a passive feeling; it was recorded as righteousness because he physically walked up the mountain and built the altar.

Job: Steadfast Endurance

After losing his children, wealth, and physical health, Job faced pressure from his wife to curse God and die. Instead, Job maintained his spiritual integrity. He declared that even if God slew him, he would continue to trust Him. Because his faith remained active through worship amid suffering, God restored him with double his original possessions.

Jesus Christ: The Ultimate Pattern

Our supreme model of faith is Jesus Himself. As recorded in Hebrews 12:2, we are to look unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame. Jesus endured the agony of Calvary because His hope was anchored in the certainty of the resurrection.

7. The Comfort: Why Are We Discouraged?

If Romans 8:34 explicitly affirms that Jesus Christ is currently seated at the right hand of God interceding on our behalf, why do so many believers live under continuous defeat and discouragement?

Discouragement occurs when your focus shifts away from God’s promise to your current physical circumstances. Spiritual warfare centers primarily on your focus. The adversary attempts to keep your mind fixated on bank accounts, physical symptoms, or past failures. But the Gospel reveals that your High Priest is actively advocating for you right now so that your faith will not fail. If the Creator of the universe is interceding for you, ultimate victory is assured—provided you do not abandon your position.

Put It Into Practice: Your Daily Execution Checklist

To move this study from theoretical knowledge into daily life transformation, follow these concrete action steps:

1

Anchor Your Hope Daily

Focus intentionally on God’s unshakeable character rather than the turbulence of your circumstances.

2

Listen to Spiritual Guidance

Spend quiet time in prayer allowing the Holy Spirit to give you specific strategies for your problems.

3

Speak Promises Out Loud

Counter fearful thoughts immediately by confessing scriptural promises out loud.

4

Pray Present-Tense Faith

When praying, believe you receive the answer at that moment (Mark 11:24) and thank God for it.

5

Execute Corresponding Actions

Take concrete practical steps that align with what you are praying for. Put your hands to work!

6

Fix Your Eyes on Jesus

Remember that Christ has already overcome the world and is actively interceding for your victory.

Your hope is not in a what; it is anchored in a Who. He who promised is faithful. Hold fast!
